Safeguarding Policy at Studio K
- It is the policy at Studio K to provide efficient, up-to-date, enjoyable and safe instruction in dance, to all child and adult members who enrol at the studio or join in the classes.
- Safeguarding children and young people is the responsibility of everyone.
- All teachers will be sensitive to all members’ religious beliefs and culture.
- All children and young people have the right to protection from abuse regardless of their race, ethnicity, immigration status, religion or belief, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or disability.
- All instruction will be geared to the previous experience and abilities of the pupil(s) and no person will be required to perform movements beyond their intrinsic capabilities.
- All allegations and suspicions of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly (within 24 hours) and appropriately. They must not be ignored and will be recorded on a Studio K Safeguarding & Incident Form.
- Any Incidents, including behaviour will be reported on the Studio K Safeguarding & Incident Form and reported to the Manager (Sarah ‘Kleio’ Holland) and DSL (C. ‘Mademoiselle Ginger’ Bortz) swiftly (within 24 hours) and appropriately.
- If somebody believes that a child may be suffering, or is at risk of suffering significant harm, they should always refer the concern to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) who will take it to Children’s Social Care or the Police. If the DSL (Ginger) is unavailable, the deputy (Sarah) will be contacted instead.
- The premises and equipment will be checked regularly for any defects or faults that exist or may have developed which might present hazards to any child or adult attending the premises.
- No energetic instruction will be given without pupils undergoing a “warm-up” session and after an energetic session completing a ‘cool-down’ session.
- An Accident Book is located at the studio to allow records to be kept of any accident in the school involving injuries of any nature to staff or pupils.
- The studio adopts a strictly No Smoking policy.
- Very young pupils will not be allowed to leave the premises until collected by a parent, guardian or other adult authorised to do so by a parent or guardian. If a child has permission to walk home alone, written consent will need to be provided and stored on the child’s MindBody account.
- Pupils waiting outside the studio before class times remain in the care of their parent/guardian and not Studio K.
- No members of our faculty and staff will privately transport students to and from classes, rehearsals or performances at any time except in an emergency. If you do need to transport students for any reason, it must be with the permission of the director and for a life or death reason. If you can not reach a parent/ guardian on the phone please leave a voice message.
- No member of staff will be alone with a young pupil for any substantial period of time (longer than one hour) without the consent of a parent or other authorised person.
- Changing facilities are in Elevate Gym. These are primarily used by adults. Where/if possible, parents should supervise their own children in the changing area. Only Studio K staff with a valid DBS can accompany pupils to the toilet/ changing facilities.
- No child may be photographed or videoed without the consent of parent or guardian.
- Only suitably qualified persons with an in date DBS and Public Liability Insurance will be employed in a teaching capacity, while any student engaged to assist with teaching will only work under the supervision of a qualified member of staff.
- Teachers will avoid any unnecessary physical contact with pupils. However parents should understand that some aspects of teaching involve some contact, particularly during Acro dance. Where it is necessary teachers will use the utmost discretion and ask the pupils permission.
- At all times, all staff will endeavour to keep the highest standards of instruction and behaviour. Studio K management retains the right to discharge from the school any pupil who persistently disrupts the tuition, uses offensive language, or other anti-social behaviour, or goes against any of our policies.
- Studio K shall operate its own Child protection, Anti-Bullying, Health & Safety and Behaviour Policies, which shall run alongside this Safeguarding policy.
- Studio K empowers all staff to report all safeguarding issues immediately even if it is a low level concern.
- No Studio K teachers/ staff members are to ‘follow back’ or ‘friend’ any child student of Studio K (below the age of 18) or exchange private contact information. 1/08/2025
